In addition to R.U.E.D.G., F.E.S.T.E. & S.E.E.D.S. productions, GB also adapted and directed plays for Reitaku High School. In addition, he directed several special productions for R.U.E.D.G. and for R.U.E.D.G. Old Members. Before coming to Japan in 1969, his full-length drama about Frederick the Great, THE LAST OF THE KINGS was performed in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1968 by students of the highly-praised Keele University Dramatic Society. Parts of THE VULGAR SAINT (1992) were shown on NHK (Japan) TV Main Evening News on 30 September, St. Jerome’s Day, St. Jerome being the patron saint of the Japan Association of Translators. (St. Jerome was the first major translator of the Bible into Latin.) In May, 1999, GB directed Shakespeare’s TWELFTH NIGHT with 13 R.U.E.D.G. Old Members & Members, to celebrate his 30 years in Japan, an open-air performance in the garden of Reitaku’s Campus Plaza Hotel.
